Sam Brittain returns after an extended hiatus from performing with a brand new album entitled "A Hell So Small" his 5th studio album to date.
Following a failed attempt to capture the songs as envisioned, Sam threw the tapes in the bin and decided to produce this one himself. With the assistance of Wundenbergs studios to capture drums, Sam then spent 2 years recording what would become "A Hell So Small" at home in his humble Wildflower Studios.
"There wasn't anything wrong with the original version of the record but it did not capture the energy and tonality I was seeking. So after much deliberation I had to trust myself to produce this one. I have produced for many other artists but always sought the guidance of outside producers when creating my own albums. On this record that changed and I am forever grateful to have made that hard choice."
Featuring tracks like "Hitchhiker" and "Trap Door" that both earned glowing reviews from Rolling Stone Australia.
"After a few years between drinks, Adelaide’s Sam Brittain is back to further cement his status as Australia’s answer to Bruce Springsteen, with “Hitchhiker” serving as one of the most powerful and self-assured entries in his discography to date." - Rolling Stone AU 2021
"As 2022 slowly begins to show its true colours, so too has Sam Brittain given us an indicator of what he’s all about, sharing an early contender for song of the year by way of the mesmerising “Trap Door”. Though it remains to be seen just when we’ll be receiving Brittain’s new album, songs like “Trap Door” prove to us that it’s on track to be one of the year’s best releases." - Rolling Stone AU 2022
Lead by the third and final single "Lighthouse", Sam delivered the album in its entirety on the first day of 2026. You can hear this anthemic release and the rest of 'A Hell So Small" here on Spotify
