Following on from WAYJO’s sold-out Havana Nights! concerts, the 18-piece Dynamic Jazz Orchestra returns to The Rechabite for its annual Latin Showcase. Directed by Marty Pervan and joined by special guests Arvis Mena and Imogen Thomson, the program draws on Afro-Cuban and Brazilian classics, brought to life through big band arrangements. Cuban-born vocalist and bassist Arvis Mena, frontman of De Cuba Son, brings traditional Cuban influences shaped by Latin jazz. Perth-based percussionist and composer Imogen Thomson – recipient of Perth Jazz Society’s recording sponsorship with MEJADRA and a featured artist at RTRFM’s Jazz Supreme 2025 – adds intricate percussion and rhythmic drive. With a repertoire of classics from legendary artists like Tito Puente, Pérez Prado, Afro Cuban All-Stars, Buena Vista Social Club and Cubanismo, it’s a night of big band sound, rich harmonies and rhythms that are perfect for dancing.
